Embassy of Pakistan, Kathmandu Highlights Human Rights Situation in Jammu and Kashmir

Kathmandu, October 27, 2025:
The Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu organized a talk programme to mark Kashmir Black Day titled “Kashmir – A Case of Human and Economic Rights under Occupation.” The event commemorated 78 years since October 27, 1947, when Indian forces landed in Srinagar — an act described by Pakistan as a violation of international law and the beginning of one of the world’s longest-standing disputes.

The event was attended by prominent Nepali journalists, intellectuals, and members of civil society. Messages from the President, Prime Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan were read out during the programme.

In his message, President Asif Ali Zardari stated that the day marked the start of a dark chapter of occupation and oppression for the Kashmiri people, who have endured decades of suffering and repression. He urged the international community, particularly the United Nations, to hold India accountable for human rights violations and to ensure the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir. The President reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering moral, political, and diplomatic support for the Kashmiri people.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif described October 27, 1947 as the darkest day in Kashmir’s history. He paid tribute to the resilience of the Kashmiri people and noted that India’s actions since August 5, 2019, had further intensified repression through demographic changes, restrictions on movement, and incarceration of political leaders. The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s principled stance that lasting peace and stability in South Asia depend on a just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN resolutions.

In his message, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to the UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir. He condemned India’s continued defiance of international law and the escalation of rights abuses following its unilateral actions of August 5, 2019, including the recent crackdown in the wake of the Pahalgam attack. He called on the international community to take meaningful action to end the suffering of the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Concluding the session, H.E. Abrar H. Hashmi, Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal, reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to the cause of Kashmir and underscored that the people of IIOJK possess an inalienable right to self-determination. He noted that political, economic, and other rights of Kashmiris have been systematically curtailed, adding that India’s use of draconian laws and suppression of freedoms had effectively turned the region into a “large prison.”

Participants of the event expressed solidarity with the people of IIOJK and urged the international community to play its due role in ending human rights violations and ensuring justice for the Kashmiri people.
